Muskoka Memories

As a teenager, Andy was one of my best friends. There are so many stories I can remember but perhaps the most memorable was us cycling from Willowdale to his cottage on Morrison Lake in Muskoka. Andy had the best bike, a three speed racer and I had my 3 speed Mustang. We rode with big backpacks on and I also had a news paper carrier holding our tent and food supplies. We rode starting early in the morning all day long until we got to his boathouse around Midnight, about 110 miles. I remember asking Andy repeatedly "Are we almost there?" I'm sure Andy was tired of hearing me asking. It was quite a gruelling ride. We finally arrived, pulled out Andy's boat and motor and loaded it up will all of our supplies to cross over to his cottage. Unfortunately the boat motor would not start so Andy took the only oar we had. I and another friend Mike used our mess kits to paddle about a half a mile to reach the island cottage. I don't remember what we did the next day but it wasn't much.
As the years have passed by Andy and I lost contact with each other but reconnected over Facebook. When I was back in Ontario a few years ago, we couldn't get together because he had a important appointment at the hospital. That's the last I heard from Andy. I miss you my friend.
