Uncle Proc was the uncle I knew the best.
When we were kids, living in Toronto (when my Mom was a single Mom) he came by Friday nights for dinner. His wife (my Aunt Shirl) and the 2 boys (my cousins) would spend the summer at the cottage up north and he always had dinner with our family on Friday nights before heading up. His coming for dinner sure was something to look forward to. When we were in Toronto he would take us kids to Dairy Queen after dinner – every single time!! Even better he would allow me (and my siblings) to take turns bringing a friend to DQ with us. We always got the chocolate dipped cones – I can still feel the sensation of biting down and having the chocolate breaking between my teeth. The fact that we could bring a friend and reciprocate all the times our friends parents had taken us out was one of the best parts!!
We often got invited up to the cottage too. That’s where I learned to canoe and water skied for the first time. One time, when I was a young teenager, after my Mom and I had an argument and I stormed out of the house it was Uncle Proc that was tasked with giving me “the talking to” about this event. Wink, wink ... as I remember he was sooooooooooo on my side and it wasn’t like getting in trouble at all !
He was always the life of the party!! I have many fond memories of my Uncle Proc!!! He will be missed.
Thoughs and prayers Darrel and Warren to you both and your families!
your cousin Carole (in Vancouver, BC)
