Daniel "Danny" Webb

To Brian and Family. My condolences on the loss of your father, and it was a shock to find out he was gone. Jim and I were long time friends, and date back to the 30's. I remember as a little guy, sitting on the front porch of your grandfathers house with Jim and some other little boys and listening to Jim's father stories - he held us spellbound and there was always lots of laughter. Also, there were the many sports stories, and I remember in particular the football and baseball ones. The baseball comes to mind when we both played for the Juniors baseball team, we were both fielders - usually Jim in centre field and me in left field. The team was sponsored by Dods Knitting Mill and they had provided us with woollen uniforms, some what like the old Yankie pin stripes and we actually looked like a team when wearing them. I doubt that you can imagine how hot these uniforms can be when playing baseball in mid summer! We were about 15/16 at the time and I recall a game against the young Army team from Base Borden, who were all young men. As you might expect, the ARMY team was thumping us, and showing no mercy. Finally Jim said to me, "I'm not chasing any more of these dam fly balls" and he sat down in the grass in centre field until the inning was over and we had conceded the game. I recall later times, when I would be in Orang3eville, and had the opportunity to share coffee time with Jim and others at the Orangeville Mall. I wanted to mention in particular how much we ( the old boys ) had appreciated all the work that Jim did on our behalf, in looking after our semi-annual reunions there. As always, an old boy - Dan.
