I was a Cargo Terminal Manager with Air Canada Cargo in the mid to late 1980's and Howard was one of our DC-8 Captains mainly on the overseas routes. Howard was not only an employee and Captain with Air Canada, he was a legend. I have many fond memories of Howard coming and going on flights on our system but none more memorable than that last flight before retirement. I remember the aircraft taxiing into C gate at the Toronto Cargo Terminal and the sign on the guidebar saying "shut em down Ace". Every co-pilot that Howard ever had was named "Ace" and Howard was known to say that famous quote when they arrived on the gate. Far too many memorable stories to tell of my dealings with Howard over the "Cargo" years. To his son Hugh, (another Air Canada Pilot) and family, my deepest condolences.
