Condolences

Condolence From: Joseph Anderson
Condolence: I want to express to his family and friends my deepest condolences on Steve’s recent passing. I worked with, then for Steve and Iain in the early 80s. Steve never asked something of us at work he wasn’t willing or able to do himself. I always respected that about Steve, and it was one of the reasons he was great to work with during my stint with the company. God bless his family at this difficult time.

Condolence: Norma and family. Our deepest sympathy to you all. Steven was, as you know, a well-loved man, generous and giving, humorous and easy to laugh.

Aside from his famous "suitcase satay" story, let me leave you with another from the same trip (when we rented a lake-house to fish all week before an Eggfest in Virginia):

We'd divided up the expenses and chores, and we were going to settle up at the end. Steven rented the boat and gassed it up, but refused to tell us how much it cost, and wouldn't let us pay for it. We tried to throw a little money at him for it, but I don't think he took it.

And when I went around to collected the rented linens from everyone's room, I found Steven's towels and bedsheets still folded and in the bag, laying on the plastic covered mattress of the cabin we rented.

I said "You didn't sleep without sheets and a blanket all week, did you?" He shrugged, and then laughed. He had. Wasn't exactly a priority for him, getting those sheets on and being comfortable. He'd slept atop the mattress fully clothed. Saved time, with us staying up late talking and getting up early to go fishing...

We will miss him greatly.

I hope in time the pain from this will diminish and be replaced by all the funny and more pleasant memories. There WILL be a time when we think of him and smile, instead of feel so sad. For now though, it's pretty hard to do that.

We're very happy you two were able to visit us as well, in our home. Great conversation, and a great memory.

Condolence: Bri, Norma & Family - We were so shocked and saddened when we learned of your Dad's passing. Though I didn't really know him personally, Mady always spoke so highly of him. We were impressed by his thoughtfulness and culinary skill when we too were going through a rough time. The loss of a loving father and husband is immeasurable but so is the love he left behind. Wishing you strength for today and hope for tomorrow.

Condolence: After so many years apart I had the good fortune to start to reconnect with Steve last year. These all too brief times spent together will always be precious to me. We were looking forward to more but it was not to be. My thoughts these last few days have been dominated by the many moments we shared and with sympathy the family and friends he has left behind.
You were a real GEM Steve! Good night.
