Obituary for Dan Onciul

Dan  Onciul
Onciul, Dan passed away gently on Thursday, February 23, 2017 in Shelburne surrounded by his loving family and comforted by the caring staff of Dufferin Oaks. Dan who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, was born February 8, 1927 in Hamlin, Alberta. He served his country in World War II by signing up with the Canadian Army. Following the war, he and his twin brother, Johnny, headed for Ontario where he eventually was employed by Avro Canada. After experiencing the devastation of the Avro Arrow cancellation, Dan entered the tool and die industry, and from there established his own business as a freelance manufacturer’s agent. Dan was 87 when he finally closed his business. Dan’s big loves were family and sports—especially golf.
Predeceased by his loving wife, Leona; his parents, David and Cassandra; two sisters and six brothers, Dan is remembered by brother, Mike; his children, Judith (John), David, Michael (Rosanne), and Patricia (Michael): and his six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends and family can share remembrance of Dan with a visitation at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First Street, Orangeville on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cornelius Roman Catholic Church, 16631 Kennedy Rd., Caledon (Silver Creek) on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. All are invited after to a reception at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home.

The family would appreciate memorial donations to the Orangeville Food Bank in lieu of flowers.
A tree will be planted in memory of Dan in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. A dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 2:30 p.m.
