Obituary for Margery Elsie deRoux (Blatz)

Margery Elsie deRoux (Blatz)
Margery (Gery) deRoux (nee Blatz)

Peacefully on August 19, 2016, in her 92nd year. Survived by her sons Jeffrey and James, grandchildren Damien, Rhiannon, Kayla, Miranda, Graeme, Sarah and Amy, great-grandchildren Hannah, Caitlyn, Adelynn and Crysania, and longtime friends Karen Fisher and Debbie Lawson.

Daughter of the noted child psychiatrist Dr. W.E. Blatz, founder of the Institute of Child Study, Gery taught nursery school there in the 1960’s and 1970’s, where she made many lifetime friends. Born and raised in Toronto, she eventually settled in Caledon, where she built her beloved home, “The Annex”, on her father’s farm. An enthusiastic member and supporter of the singing chorus The Sweet Adelines, she served as the Orangeville Chorus president from 1989 to 1990 , making many trips with the chorus to New Zealand, Hawaii, Paris, and Seattle to name but a few. When she stopped singing in the chorus, she continued to attend many rehearsals and concerts, and is survived by the many close and dear friends she made in the chorus.

Special thanks to the staff at Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville for their compassionate and attentive care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Orangeville Chorus of the Sweet Adelines. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.

A tree will be planted in memory of Margery in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. A dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
