Obituary for Keith McMurchy Hunter

Hunter, Keith McMurchy
On his own schedule, when the time seemed right, our beloved husband (Joan), father (Linda Hunter/Brian and Karen Sorensen/Carsten) and Grandpa (Eric, Drew, Connor, Hayley) quietly passed away at home, with his bride of 60 years, holding his hand.
Keith was born and raised in Orangeville with his parents and three siblings. He spent his whole life in this community apart from a few years spent in Toronto.
His first career was as a butcher with Loblaws and he moonlighted as a drummer with a local band.
He then moved back to Orangeville to become the co-owner of the local IGA grocery store. While installing the phones in the new store he met the love of his life, Joan Bonnell, who worked for Bell Canada. They married and raised their two daughters in Orangeville.
In his early 40’s Keith changed careers and joined the Manulife Insurance Co. He operated the Keith Hunter Insurance Agency for over 25 years.
Upon retirement Keith took up a new passion and performed throughout Canada as a magician, up until his final act.
A lover of all history, Keith spent a good portion of his life collecting antiques. He studied his own family history and authored a short book on the Hunter Family.
Keith was an active community member and spent over 60 years volunteering with the Orangeville Rotary Club and served as President. Keith was one of the longest active serving Rotarians in Orangeville.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Westminster United Church Building Fund. Visitation will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First Street, Orangeville on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m.
Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
