Obituary for Ursulla Ann Donaldson (Belsher)

Donaldson, Ursula Ann (nee Belsher)
The family of Ursula Donaldson wishes to share the news of her peaceful passing, surrounded by family, at the age of 101 at Bethell House, in Caledon on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. Ursula was born in McCord Saskatchewan on February 3, 1918 - the 4th of 16 children. Her love of that province, and her western roots, remained an important and essential part of her life, and she passed this on to her children. She met the love of her life, Archibald Donaldson, at Moosejaw Hospital, where she was training to be a registered nurse. After marrying Archy, and moving to Toronto, Ursula defied the gender norms of the time by concealing her marital status in order to maintain her career as a nurse, but she was subsequently fired from Toronto General Hospital for being married nonetheless. She remained Archy’s adoring wife for 64 years until his death in 2006. She was the loving mother to Bill Donaldson (Sue), Linda Scheven (Matthew), and Jane Lingerfelt. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Leanne, Michael (Krista), Andrea (Rob), Jeffrey (Amy), Jennifer (Mark), Michelle (Greg), Meredith, Emily (Cody), Melissa, and Ethan. She was so very loved by her 10 great-grandchildren, who all brought her immense joy with every visit: Avery, Graydon, Camryn, Theo, Gavin, Ella, Maya, Quinn, Dean, and Blake. Ursula will be lovingly remembered by her siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and large extended family. Services for Ursula will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster United Church, Orangeville, with a reception to follow at her residence for the past 6 years, the Lord Dufferin Centre. Many thanks to the nurses at both Headwaters Health Care Centre and Bethell House and to the wonderful PSWs who all provided exceptional care to Ursula in her final weeks.
A tree will be planted in memory of Ursula in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. The annual dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
