Obituary for Wally Homersham

Thomas Wallace Homersham, better known to many as Wally, passed peacefully on Monday, March 15, 2021 with family at his side.

Wally was born on May 4, 1940 in Regina, Saskatchewan to Leora and Tom Homersham. He grew up on the family farm in Zehner, just outside Regina. As a young boy, Wally had his head in the clouds long before he ever got there. His interest in aviation started by building model airplanes and reading aviation literature. It translated into a sterling career in aviation and an incredible life story. Wally started out instructing at the Regina Flying Club and it was onwards and upwards from there. He flew a variety of bush aircraft in northern Saskatchewan before joining Imperial Oil in their corporate flight operation. Eventually, the lure of flying a 747 was too much to pass up and he went to fly for Wardair. He retired with Canadian Airlines in 1997 flying the 767. He did not retire for long though...He liked operating big machines. Throughout his flying career, he held his transport truck driving license and it was an easy transition into driving trips to Florida once a week. Aviation eventually pulled him back, but this time, in the classroom with Canada 3000. He got behind the wheel again in 2002, driving for Land Air Express and finally retired in 2006. His passion for aviation was unwavering. In retirement he helped build World War 1 replica aircraft at The Great War Flying Museum two-three days a week. Utilizing his expert wood working craft, which was honed with the beautiful projects he created for the family home. He loved his dogs and all creatures big and small. He was a calm, diligent, hard-working man who would often rather be the one listening than talking. He had a lighter side too, a funny joke, a limerick that would leave you needing to hear it again or an expression you never heard after 30 years of living with him. These were many of the reasons he was so well loved by family, friends and colleagues. He would do anything for his family and we would do anything to have him back. You will be sorely missed by all. We love you with every fibre of our being, Dad (Waldo).

Wally is survived by his wife Darlene (Daisy), sons Patrick & Michael, his beloved dogs, sisters Midge Sprenger and Gail Robertson.

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a time to be determined.
Donations to Canadian Cancer Society, OSPCA or Great War Flying Museum
(https://greatwarflyingmuseum.org) would be appreciated by the family.

A tree will be planted in memory of Wally in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. The next annual dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
