Obituary for Wayne Hawthorne

Hawthorne, Wayne
It is with great sadness and shock that we announce the passing of Wayne Hawthorne, on Saturday, July 6, 2019, after a very short battle with cancer. First and foremost, Wayne was an artist. He worked with wood and loved to draw. He could be seen at all kinds of functions drawing portraits in his sketch book. He was a volunteer and great promoter of Theatre Orangeville right from its inception. Wayne was an original volunteer with the Jazz and Blues Festival. He was known in the construction business having worked with numerous builders. Wayne loved books and was a constant visitor to the Grand Valley and Orangeville libraries. Wayne loved people. He was a friendly guy, always ready to help. He believed in hugs rather than handshakes. Most of all, he just wanted to be with the love of his life, his wife, best friend, and fellow artist, Kathryn Thomson. He will be greatly missed by Kathryn's sisters and extended family, family around North Bay, and amazing close friends across the country. Some furry "kids" will also miss him. Wayne is gone much too young at 67. There was still so much more to do.

A Celebration of Wayne's Life will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville on Sunday, July 28, 2019 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Memorial donations to Grand Valley Public Library, Cat's Anonymous, or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

A tree will be planted in memory of Wayne in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. The annual dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
