Obituary for Ruth Joyce Reid (Smith)

Reid, Ruth Joyce (nee Smith)
It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Ruth, age 93, at Dufferin Oaks on Monday, September 13, 2021. Predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years James Beverly (JB) Reid (2013) and her brother John Smith. Loving mother of Bill (Kate), Jim (Cathy) and Tom (Ali). Adored grandmother of Caitlin Dickson (Peter), Robyn Reid Spencer (Mark), Jenn (Dave), Daniel (Steph), Tracy (Alex), Jared, Eric (Linn), Adam (Nicole) and Carly (Tyler). Very special great-grandmother of Reid and Caden, Caleb and Seth, Elizabeth and Mackenzie, Wera Liv and Georgia. Ruth will be dearly missed by her sister Julie Gairns and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Ruth was a proud and devoted volunteer at the Headwaters Health Care Centre as a member of the Auxiliary and working at the hospital thrift store, Seconds Count. She had many lovely friends living at the Lord Dufferin Centre, which she often referred to as her cruise ship, and we are very grateful for the wonderful care she received from the staff during her stay there.
The family wishes to recognize the outstanding care and support provided to Ruth from Dr. Carol Mills. Tom and Ali will be forever grateful for the numerous house calls and ongoing support provided to Ruth while she was living with them because of the Covid situation. Thanks also to Anne Foisy from the LHIN for co-ordinating the equipment and nursing/PSW support we needed for Ruth as her health needs changed.
The family appreciates and thanks the entire 3rd floor staff at Dufferin Oaks for their exceptional care during Ruth’s stay. She knew all of you by name and had a deep appreciation for the wonderful care you provide to the Dufferin Oaks residents.
Ruth touched so many lives and radiated love and kindness during her life. She lit up the room when she entered and saw the very best in everyone. Never one to raise her voice or speak an unkind word, her positive outlook on life was infectious. The world would be a better place if there were more Ruth Reids in it. We love you Mom and will miss your beautiful smile and sparkling eyes. We know that Dad was there to greet you in his handsome navy suit and red and blue striped tie, his white hair slicked back and that the two of you are dancing together again to Frank Sinatra ,singing My Way.
A Private Family Service will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre. The service will be live streamed for those who wish to attend virtually. (Please find the play button in the Webcasting box below this obituary.)
For those who wish to honour Ruth donations can be made to Headwaters Health Care Auxiliary in her memory.
A tree will be planted in memory of Ruth in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
