Obituary for Robert William Goodyear

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) William Goodyear on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the age of 85 peacefully with family at his side. He was a caring and loving husband to his wife Sandra (nee McCartney) of 62 years. He was an amazing dad to his 3 daughters, Patti (Kevin), Susan (Roger), Dawn (Steve), grandfather of Nicole, Lauren, Matt, Kyle, Tristan, Taylor, Karley and Braeden and great-grandfather of Reese, Caleb and Quinn. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and predeceased by his mother, father, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

Bob was born in Buchan’s Newfoundland to Flossie and Aubrey Goodyear. At the age of 10 he moved to Toronto. He was an employee of Bell Canada for 35 years. Although he never wanted the recognition, he was proud to know he never took a day off sick in all those years. He also worked many years part-time for Maple Leaf Gardens. He was a hard working provider for his family, a much loved husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend to all those that knew him. He will surely be remembered for his game of “Coco-bonks” or climbing the stone wall to hide on his grandchildren. He lived life to the fullest and was always quite active. He loved his hockey, playing most of his life well into his 70’s. He also enjoyed many years of golf, baseball, roller blading and biking. Many a summer he spent time fishing during family holidays at his sister’s cottage on Balsam Lake. After his retirement he and Sandy enjoyed many winters at their home in Florida. In the spring, summer and fall you would likely find him gardening or walking the groomed trails on the grounds of their home near Orangeville. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and all around enjoyment of life. He will be dearly missed, fondly remembered and his family will continue his journey comforted to know he will be by their side always and forever.

A Private Service will be held with family. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County or charity of your choice would be appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of Bob in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake conservation area, Orangeville. The next annual dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
