Obituary for Norma Fay Kearney (Rosebrugh)

Norma Fay Kearney (nee Rosebrugh)
Norma passed away peacefully with family at her side at Amica Peel Village Retirement Home on October 22, 2020 at the age of 93.
Survived by her 6 children David Kearney (Karen Chiovitti), Susan Palmer (John Palmer), Paul Kearney, Diane Boyd (Chris Boyd), William Kearney (Karen Nayler) & Robert Kearney Jr. (Kerry Kearney). Also survived by her grandchildren Laura, Nolan, Jennifer (Anthony), Lisa, Sandee, Stephen (predeceased 2013), Kevin (Sydney), Alex, Cameron, Jessica & Adelle, as well as her great granddaughters Elizabeth & Kathleen. Norma will be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Married for over 64 years to her loving husband Robert Francis Kearney (predeceased 2016).
Norma graduated with a B.A. from McMaster University and with a Bachelor of Social Work from University of Toronto. She worked as a Social Worker with the Welfare Department in Toronto, with Catholic Children’s Aid Society, Toronto and enjoyed a long career with the Peel Childrens’ Aid Society. Following her retirement from CAS in 1990, Norma began a private social work practice, initially in adoption disclosure, then in private adoption where she continued to do home studies and place children into loving homes until she was in her 80’s. She was a mentor to many young social workers, including her granddaughter, Lisa. Norma’s greatest love was her husband, Bob, and the family they raised together. Norma had many friends and social connections and gave willingly of her time to many community and volunteer organizations. Norma was intelligent, thoughtful and compassionate and was greatly respected by all who knew her. Norma and Bob travelled extensively in their retirement, visiting many places in Europe and the Caribbean, and visiting their family in BC. After over 50 years in the Co-op subdivision they helped to build in Wildfield, they moved to the Rosedale Village Community in Brampton. There, they formed many new friendships and lived there until after Bob’s passing. Norma moved into Amica Peel Village in February 2019 and enjoyed another new group of friends and activities. She will be sadly missed by the many people whose lives she touched. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Amica for their exceptional care of our mom for almost two years. We would also like to thank her family doctor of over 30 years, Dr. Leili Pede, for her compassionate and professional care and for treating mom like a family member.
Family will greet visitors at Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First Street, Orangeville on Thursday, October 29, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Prayers, songs and memories to be shared at 7:00 p.m.
