Obituary for Nancy Anne Evans (Cannon)
Nancy Evans (nee Cannon)
Passed away with her family at her side, in her 90th year, on the 19th of November, 2022 at Dufferin Oaks in Shelburne, Ontario.
Nancy was born on March 14th, 1933 in Whitney, Ontario to the late Teresa and Thomas Cannon. She was the youngest of three children and her siblings (Brian Cannon and Joan Murray) have both predeceased her in death.
Nancy was educated at St. Mary’s Convent and received her nursing degree in 1955 at Lorrain Nursing College in Pembrooke Ontario.
Nancy married the love of her life in 1956, Robert (Bob) Evans who predeceased her in death in 1994. Bob and Nancy were blessed with six children Paul (Linda), Kim (Shane), Debbie (Brian), Colleen, Brenda (Paul), Dawn (Jim).
Nancy, Bob and family lived in various parts of Canada (Winnipeg, Edmonton, Montreal, Trenton, Shelburne, Vancouver, Georgetown, Orangeville) through Bob’s work in the Royal Canadian Air Force and CPAir. Nancy worked as a Registered Nurse in many hospitals and Nursing Homes throughout her nursing career, one of them being Dufferin Oaks in Shelburne as Director of Nursing.
Nancy and Bob enjoyed travel throughout the world including camping in Canada and the States. They enjoyed their volunteer work with the Shelburne Lions.
Nancy lived her life through her faith: she was a devout Catholic and made many close friends through her association with her church.
Nancy will be missed by her eight grandchildren and her eleven great grandchildren, her friends and family.
Nancy’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful, nurturing, supportive staff at Dufferin Oaks. Their professionalism, positivity and efforts in providing excellent care made such a difference in her life in her final years and days.
Visitation will be at Dods and McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre 21 First St. Orangeville on Thursday, November 24th between 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.
Funeral will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church 42 Dawson Rd, Orangeville on Friday November 25th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dufferin Oaks Retirement Home or St. Timothy’s Catholic Church.
A tree will be planted in memory of Nancy in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 21st Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
