Obituary for Michael Thomas "Tyke" Collison

COLLISON, Michael Thomas
It is with great sadness that the family of Michael (Tyke) Thomas Collison announces his passing, on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at the age of 52. Michael will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Harley and Mark, his sisters Heather (Cicinski) and Tammy (Holmes), sister-in-law Rose, brothers-in-law John Cicinski and Robert Holmes. He will also be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Cara Collison, Bobby Collison, Chris Holmes and the late Cody Holmes, as well as great-nieces and nephew. He is also predeceased by his parents James Walter and Sylvia Ann Collison (nee Ross).
Michael was born and raised in Prescott, Ontario. He began working at Chevron Construction (DuPont) before moving onto Proctor and Gamble in Brockville. He later moved to Orangeville, Ontario, where he worked for Headwaters Health Care Centre (Orangeville Hospital). A gifted athlete, Michael played hockey for the Prescott Hockey League, helping to win the Gills Cup while playing for the Prescott Falcons. His long-time coach and mentor, Bernard (Bernie) Currier, said he was a “wonderful guy to coach. He gave us more than we gave him. Tyke may have been small in stature, but you couldn’t measure his heart…a gentleman in the game, he showed true leadership skills.” When playing in the minor soccer league, Michael received a MVP award. He also coached little league hockey and soccer, and enjoyed playing golf and spending as much time as he could outdoors. Throughout his life, he was a thoughtful, kind and caring person, who spoke to everyone he met. He will be greatly missed and remembered with much love.
A Memorial Service in memory of Michael will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 6:00 p.m. Interment and a Celebration of Life will take place in Prescott, Ontario at a later date.
