Obituary for Dawn Smith

Smith, Marjorie Dawn (nee Emack)
Dec 13,1930 - Dec 12, 2020
Dawn Smith passed away peacefully at Headwaters Healthcare Centre on Saturday, December 12, 2020, one day before her 90th birthday, after a short illness. Dawn married her loving husband Glenn in 1951, and they enjoyed an incredible 59 years together. They enjoyed summers at the cottage at Caledon Lake while raising their 3 children, winters in Florida for over 30 years, and enjoyed playing bridge, curling, golfing and socializing with their large circle of friends both in Orangeville and in Florida. Family was most important and they took great pleasure in their grandchildren, and more recently great-grandchildren. Nanny is described by the grandchildren as loving, adventurous and full of life, with a great sense of humour, while sharing unconditional love for the whole family. Dawn was an avid gardener, accomplished quilter and seamstress, and enjoyed building/ decorating several homes.
She will be missed by her 3 children: Sandra (Dave), Greg (Janice), Janice (Steve), her 6 grandchildren: Jacee (Shandor), Jordan (Michaela), Christie, Ryan (Reanna), Marissa (Anthony), Mike (Emma), and 4 great-grandchildren: Zander, Nixon, Mila and Mikayla.
A Private Family Funeral will take place on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre for immediate family only at 2:30 p.m., which will be live streamed, and available also for later viewing on the funeral home’s website.
If desired, memorial donations can be made to Headwaters Health Care Foundation or to Sick Kids Foundation.
We would like to thank the caring staff at Headwaters for their excellent care in her final week, including Dr. Karen Sandhu, and the loving nurses/staff of E-wing who all went above and beyond to love and honour our mother for us d/t the Covid restrictions. We will never forget your kindness.
A tree will be planted in memory of Dawn in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. The next annual dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
