Obituary for Marion Iva Farmer (Treitz)

Farmer, Marion Iva (nee Treitz)
Our family is saddened to announce the passing of Marion Iva Farmer (nee Treitz), on Saturday, December 12, 2020. Marion was 96 and the matriarch of the family. Born October 17, 1924, in Lonely Lake, Manitoba, Marion was the second child of Edward Simon Treitz and Iva May Oliver. Marion was a strong and vibrant woman, with courage to face the unknown and empathy for those in need. She was loved by all.
She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Edward (Ted) William; sister Lillian; brothers Donald and Wilfred; as well as her parents. She is survived by her only son David (Rosella) of Winnipeg, MB; grandchildren: Jennifer (Ken) of Elie, MB, David (Shona) of Orangeville, ON, Melanie (Mark) of Coon Rapids, MN and Lisa of Vancouver, BC; 12 great-grandchildren: Janna, Cassandra (Dale), Taylor, Kole, Adrianna, Ashley, Kate, Abby, Tennyson, Truman, Marlowe and Beatrix and 3 great-great grandchildren Thomas, Lincoln and Russell as well as several nieces and nephews.
Some of her happiest days were during her service in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC) during the war, until an accident forced her to retire. But her experiences with the military were not over, as she married her beloved Ted and for the next 30 years experienced military life from a different perspective. Marion travelled across Canada and to the far north as well as England and Germany, often with very little notice, as she joined Ted on his many adventures. After Ted’s retirement, Marion and her family moved to Woodstock, Ontario and settled into civilian life. She was a founding member of Learning Unlimited and served as secretary for many years. Through her efforts of arranging speakers and keeping people informed, she helped to make Learning Unlimited a very well respected and important help in the lives of local seniors. While busy with Learning Unlimited, Marion was also very involved in Girl Guides, serving as both a Guide and a Brownie leader. Later in life she was an active member of the Trefoil Guild, making many life-long friends. Another enjoyable time was as a house mother for the YWCA, where she ensured the young ladies in her care behaved themselves. She grew to love them all. Marion also worked at the Woodstock Public Library. It was during this time that her love of books blossomed. She read all she could and made sure that her grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were exposed to the finest in Canadian literature.
Our family appreciates the loving support of her grandson David and wife Shona and family for everything they did for Marion during her time in Simcoe Manor, including: weekly visits, baking cookies, making fun crafts, introducing Marion to their fur family and many other special activities. It was evident that Marion enjoyed these special times together.
Marion is now with her husband, Ted, her parents and her sister and brothers. Rest in peace Marion, you will be forever missed.
She was a resident of Simcoe Manor in Beeton, Ontario since January, 2018. Many thanks to all the staff who took care of her, loved her and are saddened by her passing.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice in Marion’s name.
