Albright, Lyla Mae (nee Johnston)
Passed away peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 with her family lovingly by her side. Born January 14, 1925 in Cabri, Saskatchewan. Lyla was the eldest daughter of David and Mary (Peterson) Johnston and sister of David (deceased) Betty, Windsor, Shirley McNalty (deceased), Dundalk and Jim (Lois), Flesherton. Lyla was raised in the depression and the dust bowl years in SW Saskatchewan where she became a teacher in a one room schoolhouse. Lyla was married to Albert (d.1998) at the Johnston farm near Dundalk on Aug .11, 1948. Lyla and Al moved from Shaunavon to Bowness area of Calgary, Alberta, resuming her teaching career while raising two sons - Jim (deceased) (Heather) Orangeville, Gerry (Jennifer) Belleville, and daughter Judi (Ron) Nelson,Mono Centre. Lyla is the cherished grandmother of six grandchildren and great-grandmother of eight. Lyla and Al relocated to Orangeville in 1961 to enter the hospitality business, running a motel. Lyla resumed teaching and eventually became a school librarian. Lyla completed her BA from Wilfrid Laurier University after years of dedicated summer school courses. Lyla was a Life Member of the Eastern Star, member of the UCW, Retired Teachers, specifically the Muffin Bunch, Red Hats and Probus. Lyla loved the family cottage at Eugenia and travelling to Florida, Europe, Panama, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, the Canadian Rockies, Eastern Provinces and many other locations. On Saturday, August 17, 2019, visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The Funeral will begin with the Eastern Star Service at 11:00 a.m. and Sandra Abuja will be officiating the Funeral Service that follows at Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville. Reception at 1:00 p.m. Interment is to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Mono, ON.
Memorial donations to Westminster United Church would be appreciated by the family. A tree will be planted in memory of Lyla in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
