Obituary for Lyn Harmer

LINDA (LYN) GEORGINA HARMER
(nee Street)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Lyn at home in Grey Highlands on March 16, 2023 at the age of 80. Born in Streatham, England she was predeceased by her parents Bill and Julia Street, brother David and her Uncle Derek and Aunt Connie.

Lyn was inseparable from and will be intensely missed by her husband David and son Jon and his family. She also leaves nephews Colin and Robert and Robert's family in England, David's niece Kim and nephew Geoffrey and families in New Zealand and Australia as well as numerous cousins through marriage.

Lyn and David married in London in 1964 then emigrated to Canada in 1969 becoming Canadian citizens in due course. Without complaint she supported him through numerous work related transfers within Canada and overseas, living in Simcoe, Kitchener, Burlington, Calgary, London England, Caledon and Mulmur. Brought up in London, a city flourishing in art, music and fashion in the sixties, she learned to love and prefer living on her country properties over the years. Despite often serious health issues she was active in little theatre and managed her Flights of Fancy studio for the Birds in the early 1980's. She loved, trained and showed her many dogs. Fiercely independent and with a strong ethical upbringing, she often showed her wonderful sense of humour, yet was an intensely private person. However no one was ever left in doubt as to her opinions.

A very small family service will be held at Dods and McNair Funeral Home, Chapel and Reception Centre in Orangeville. Since family and friends are scattered throughout Canada and the world, the service will be live-streamed. Cremation has already taken place.

Donations in her memory may be made to local humane societies, Crohns and Colitis Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A tree will be planted in memory of Lyn in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 21st Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
