I had not seen Jim in a while but one of the last times I did he was cruising around in his little Miata with the top down enjoying life! Without a doubt Jim had a huge part of where I am today, when he was running the Co-op program at the high school he found me in Mr. Grants foods room to tell me about an opening for a Co-op student at Shelburne Auto. I wasn't actually taking the course but he convinced me that I should take the opportunity as he knew of my interest in the career. Well more than twenty years later my family and I own that shop he sent me to that day. He was a great man and well respected by everyone that met him, especially by his students, a bunch of high school know-it-alls! You will be missed by myself and the rest of the Ferris family. Kids be proud of your father and take care of your mother.

Jim Westlake, what can I say, one of the best ever! Jim hired me as a rookie teacher, had confidence in me and taught me so much. I will always remember being called into his office (so small that only 2 could fit in!) and being afraid that I had done something wrong. Jim was always so kind that I would come out of those meetings feeling good, even if I had screwed up! My proudest moment in teaching was when I became Head of Technological Studies at Centre Dufferin after Doug Shaw retired. I thought of Jim when I took the role and tried to remember all he (and Doug) taught me, I can only hope I was half the teacher/department head he was.
Condolences to the entire family and the town of Shelburne

Mr Westlake was my teacher many years ago . It was because of him I went on to study architectural technology. He made a huge difference in my life . I probably owe my career in contracting to him, not only the construction lessons but the life lessons to. He was definitely a teacher who made a huge difference in my life. My condolences to the family. Phil Barnett
