As my career with OPG/OH provided an early retirement option, it gave me the opportunity to continue to AECL, and thereby give both my wife Joan and me the wonderful chance to meet Jim and Sara in China. How lucky we were to know and also work with Jim. A great engineer, and a perfect gentleman. So sad and sorry to hear, and we send our deepest sympathy to Sara and family

I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Jim’s passing on Sept 30th.

Jim Georgas dedicated his lifetime career to the successful implementation of Nuclear Power in various countries around the world and I have been privileged to have worked with him of a number of occasions including during the Commissioning of Romania’s Candu 600MW unit 1 and 2 in Cernavoda Romania and during the Commissioning of China’s two Candu 700 MW units at Qinshan China, where he was the Fuel Handling Superintendent, a very highly specialized area of reactor systems. Jim also participated in Argentina’s first Candu project in Embalse, Argentina

Throughout these projects Jim exhibited a work ethic that was second to none. He had a wealth of technical knowledge of these specialized nuclear systems and a desire to ensure that problems were solved so that long term benefits could be realized. His approach to working as a team member won the respect of all his colleagues and his leadership qualities of honesty, integrity and commitment were exemplary. He was a good listener and excellent communicator and very decisive in decision making, and always ensuring a safety first approach in all matters.

Jim will be sadly missed by his Canadian colleagues who had the pleasure of working with him on these exciting projects.

Dear Sara,

Please accept my condolences. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Jim at AECL's Fuel Handling department. He was a very knowledgeable and patient individual with whom I was lucky to have the opportunity to learn from! He was always very pleasant to be around and I wish I had had more time to continue to learn from him. Jim will be missed for sure. He left us way too soon. My thoughts are with Jim and your family.
Sincerely,
Mariano Carbajales
