Obituary for Helena Jane Crum (Ellis)

Crum, Helena Jane (nee Ellis)
Helena Jane Crum passed away Tuesday morning, March 29, 2022 at the age of 86. She died peacefully in her home in Orangeville, Ontario with her loving and devoted husband George Crum by her side. Helena was known as “Helen” to most and was born to the late Helena and Garnet Ellis of Port Hope, Ontario. She was preceded in death by her brothers Bill and George, and survived by her sister Francis. Helena was born July 21, 1935 and raised in Toronto. She was known to many as a caring, thoughtful, hardworking woman who was
consistently there for her family, enjoyed cooking, especially one of her favorite dishes
“Cabbage Rolls”, gardening and playing a good game of Yahtzee. In her younger years, she spent much of her time in the Haliburton Highlands at her cottage with her husband George entertaining family and friends, and spending her time outdoors. She loved boating, sunbathing, swimming, and setting up her bird feeder every Spring to attract birds, especially hummingbirds. For almost a decade, she owned and worked at a snack bar called the Hide-a-Way coffee shop in Haliburton along with her husband George, and subsequently made it into their local newspaper. Over the decades, she owned a cat, bird, and a few dogs as she loved animals. She had lived in various places such as Port Hope, Barrie, Shelburne, Newcastle, Aurora, Holland Landing, and Schomberg, before finally settling in Orangeville.
She will be greatly missed and forever remembered by her 4 children: Gina (& the Late Tony Imbrogno), John (Ann), Robert (Debbie), Suzanne (John); Her 12 grandchildren: Rosanne, Marco, Michael, Alichia, Justin, Sharlene, Sandra, Samantha, Shannon, Steven, Neil, & Ryan; Her 12 great-grandchildren: Cristina, Luciano, Alessandro, Giuseppe, Santino, Domenic, Aubrie, Avery, River, Felix, Bellamay, Nevaeh, and her 7 step-great-grandchildren.
Helena Jane Crum was cremated and her wishes were that her ashes be spread in Haliburton and Calgary at a later date.
The family will be holding a Private Celebration of life in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of Helen would be greatly appreciated to Parkinson Canada
(www.Parkinson.ca) in her memory.

Her Journey's Just Begun

Don't think of her as gone away
her journey’s just begun.
Life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.

Just think of her as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.

Think how she must be wishing
that we could know today
How nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.

And think of her as living
in the hearts of those she touched…
For nothing loved is ever lost
and she was loved so much.

A tree will be planted in memory of Helena in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
