Smith, Harold Bruce
Nov. 16, 1922 - Dec. 05, 2019
It is with sadness that we say farewell to our much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, but take comfort that he wanted to leave this world behind and is finally at peace. After a long and full life of 97 years, Bruce completed his life's journey as he had lived, peacefully and quietly on December 5, 2019 at his beloved farm. Bruce was a quiet and humble man and will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, his remarkable memory, his great sense of humour, quick wit and his abiding love of the land where he was born. He enjoyed the simple things in life: family gatherings, country fall fairs, music, dancing with his sweetheart, Marion, and riding his beloved blue Ford tractor. He was predeceased by his best friend and love, his wife of 69 years, Marion (2016). His life will be fondly remembered by his children: Diane (Ron) Little, Gordon Smith and Brian Smith (Mary). Cherished grandpa to Shawn (Jill) Little, Krista (Peter) Sweeney, Jennifer Little, Michael (Ashley) Smith, Leanne (Chris) Menchenton. Loving great-grandchildren: Ryan and Jenna Little, Paige, James and Claire Sweeney, Lincoln, Vanessa and Xander Smith, Cole, Logan and Camron Smith, all of whom could bring a smile to his face. Survived by his youngest sister, Mary Spooner and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sisters, Ruby McCauley and Floretta Early. Losing dad is the end of an era for our family, but we're all better for having his shining example of hard work, love and humour. Special thanks to Dr. Reta French, the palliative care team and PSW's whose helpful and caring efforts allowed dad to have his final days at home.
Bruce's wishes for cremation have taken place.
