Obituary for Gerd Otto Strzelba

Strzelba, Gerd
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerd Strzelba on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the age of 87 years, after a courageous battle with dementia. Much beloved husband to Milena of 64 years. Treasured and loving father of Ingrid (John) and Karen (Hal). Cherished and precious Opa of Christina, Stephanie, Ryan and Derek; and faithful brother to Erich in Austria.
Born and raised in Austria, Gerd was an electrical engineer and worked for Ontario Hydro upon emigrating to Canada in1956. After several years he found his true calling as a teacher at George Brown College's Casa Loma campus in Toronto. Gerd was a gentle, kind man of strong faith, and his deep love of family and of helping others were the foundation upon which he built and lived his life. He always made time to be there for others no matter how busy and hectic life got, and gave many, many hours doing volunteer work. Gerd loved music, and played guitar, recorder, cello, accordion, and particularly the piano, with passion. He was a gift and a blessing to his family and friends, and to all who knew him. He was so easy to love, and he will be deeply missed. He will live forever in our hearts.
A very special, heart-felt and loving thank you to all the remarkable staff at Dufferin Oaks in Shelburne, who cared for our Dad with tenderness and love from the moment he made the Oaks his Home. We will never forget your incredible kindness and compassion!
Funeral Service will be held atthe Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville, on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., preceded by Visitation from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m..
If desired, donations to a charity close to your own heart would be appreciated by the family. In loving memory of Gerd and in keeping with how he lived his life in the loving service of others, please do a kindness for someone each day.
A tree will be planted in memory of Gerd in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
