Remembering a loving husband, father, and buppy who was truly one of a kind. George Elwood Meehan ("the little G.E.M") passed away peacefully on January 14, 2023, at the age of 91, surrounded by his loving family at the Avalon Care Centre in Orangeville.
George was the beloved Husband of “his beauty” Joan; the dear father of Gail (Ken deceased), Stephen (Maria), and Brenda (Paul); the cherished Grandfather of Dawn (Adam), Mike (Lyndsey), Monika (Alex), Matthew, Julia, Michael, Christina, Victoria, Mark, and Marianna; and the proud Great-Grandfather of Jack, Arlo, Leo, and Rory.
He will be greatly missed by his sister, Viney, brother and sisters-in-law, Howard (Dorothy), and Gayle (Arnie deceased), and many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. George was pre-deceased by his parents, Louise and Frank, and siblings, Doris, Millie (Ronnie) and Earl.
George touched the hearts of many and put a smile on the faces of all who knew him. He was a very faithful man, who prayed the rosary daily, and inspired the faith of his family. A special thank you to the staff at the Avalon Care Centre and in particular, the nurses and PSW’s on 1- South, who treated George with respect and compassion during the last year of his life.
Funeral Service will be held at Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre 21 First St Orangeville, Ontario on Tuesday, January 17th, 2023 at 2:30 pm. Visitation will begin at 1:30 pm. Memorial donations to Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated by the family.
A tree will be planted in memory of George in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 21st Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
