George Howard John Matthew Crum passed away the early morning of Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at the age of 87. George was born to Roy Earnest Crum and Minnie Louella (St. Thomas) Crum-James. He was predeceased by his older sister Gertrude and brother Ralph. George Crum was born January 8th, 1935 and raised in Hornepayne, Ontario. He lived in various places such as Toronto, Barrie, Shelburne, Newcastle, Aurora, Holland Landing and Schomberg before finally settling in Orangeville. He married the love of his life at 18 years of age and spent 69 happy wedding anniversaries with her before her passing on March 29th, 2022.

In his younger years, he spent much of his time at his residence in Haliburton with his wife Helen. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends, living the cottage life. He loved snowmobiling, boating, Quad ATV rides through the trails in the cottage country and watching hockey, wrestling and movies.

For almost a decade, he owned and worked at a snack bar called the Hide-a-Way coffee shop in Haliburton alongside his wife Helen, and subsequently made it into their local newspaper. He was a very hard-working and dedicated man who worked well into his 70’s. He had various jobs in his earlier years such as delivering pop and shovelling coal, but spent most of his work career in ice arenas operating Zambonis and performing duties in managerial roles.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his 4 Children: Gina (and the late Tony Imbrogno), John (Ann), Robert (Debbie), Suzanne (John); His 12 grandchildren: Rosanne, Marco Michael, Alichia, Justin, Sharlene, Sandra, Samantha, Shannon, Steven, Neil and Ryan; His 12 great-grandchildren: Cristina, Luciano, Alessandro, Giuseppe, Santino, Domenic, Aubrie, Avery, River, Felix, Bellamay, Naveah, and his 7 step-great-grand-children.
George Howard John Matthew Crum was cremated as per his wishes through Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre in Orangeville, Ontario and his ashes will be spread in the Haliburton Highlands near Long Lake along with the ashes of his late-wife Helena Crum at a later date.
The family will be holding a Private Celebration of Life in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of George would be greatly appreciated to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Kidney Foundation in his memory.

A tree will be planted in memory of George in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 20th Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
