Obituary for Eileen Margaret Dykes (Dykes)

Eileen Margaret Dykes B.A.,M.Ed.,Ed.D. (U of T, OISE)

On Wednesday morning, March 29th, in her 81st year, Eileen passed away peacefully in Orangeville in the company of two best friends, Rev. Lynne Thackwray & Joan McWilliams at the merciful hands of a M.A.I.D Physician. Head injuries sustained in a series of falls beginning last August resulted in irreparable brain damage severely limiting her abilities in activities of daily life. Coupled with heart & kidney malfunction and significant mobility issues this severely limited quality of life.

Hired by the Board of Education for the City of Toronto, Eileen was a teacher, consultant and vice-principal and acting principal. Specialties were Early Childhood and Special Education. Retiring in 1996, she moved to a property in Caledon and spent 22 wonderful years 'just living', and meeting some wonderful new friends in the process.

Undeterred by warnings against having a hobby that 'eats', Eileen bred and showed Standard Smooth Dachshunds and was a life member of the Canadian Kennel Club, last Secretary of the former Dachshund Club of Canada, and life member of the Eastern Canada Dachshund Club, member Dachshund Club of Ontario, and the Dachshund club of America. One of her Llndenwood Dachshunds won Best in Show, with an entry of 76 other dachshunds at the 2007 Eastern Canada Dachshund Club's 2007 Specialty - handled by her rather than a handler!

Funeral Service will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville on Saturday, April 15 2023 at 2:30pm. with visitation beginning at 1:30pm.
