Hollister, Dorothy Louise (née Richards)
Our beautiful mother, Dorothy Louise Hollister (née Richards), left this world on October 11, 2020. She was born July 23, 1932 and lived a glorious 88 years. She left behind 4 children - Mark (Catherine), Pamela (Mitchell), Debra (Frank) and Matthew (Diana) and 4 grandchildren - Benjamin, Rebecca, Michael and Nicholas.
To describe Dorothy is not an easy task. She was a feisty, cantankerous, stubborn, fiercely independent, loyal and brutally honest woman who would tell you ‘her truth’ without solicitation. She did this on a routine basis much to the chagrin of those in her line of sight. She did not suffer fools easily. As counterbalance, Dorothy had a wicked sense of humour - one she employed on a routine basis in any situation she deemed necessary.
Our mother had an innate intelligence that is not easily acquired by many and this intelligence surfaced when guiding her children through life. Her ability to love her children and grandchildren was unparalleled. Dorothy was not always the most demonstrative person - likely as a result of her own upbringing. However, if you were loved by Dorothy, you knew it. Sometimes that’s all a person needs in life.
She felt things deeply and had an incredible soft spot for any furry creature - especially cats. She cared for them with great gentleness, kindness and love. But the true love of Dorothy’s life was her husband, James. James left us too soon, but the great comfort we take is knowing that Dorothy and James (aka Jas, Jimbo, the Equalizer and the Silver Fox) are united again in a place where they are free of physical limitations, surrounded by family and friends long gone, and animals who knew her love and nurturing firsthand.
Mom, we miss you and love you more than anything.
Your loving family
