Obituary for Doris Ann Mottershaw (Saul)
MOTTERSHAW, DORIS ANN
Doris Ann Mottershaw (nee Saul), age 83 passed away October 11, 2020 after a short battle with cancer. She was born on July 26, 1937 in Cochrane, Ontario. Doris married Barrie Mottershaw (who preceded her in death in 2012) on December 6, 1958 and they raised four children in the Caledon area.
Doris was a quiet, shy and kind-hearted woman and once she got to know you she was really fun to be around. Her constant companion for the last eight years has been her little dog Archie and the two were devoted to each other and inseparable. Doris’s hands were rarely idle. She liked to sew, knit and crochet and we have the doilies to prove it! She was a talented artist leaving behind quite a collection of paintings and drawings. She also left behind enough dishes, glasses and cups for an army and her children have no idea what to do with them all. She loved music and played the guitar in her youth and later learned to play the piano until arthritis forced her to give it up. Doris loved to play games such as Scrabble, Yammy and cards and there was always lots of laughter during these “contests”. She enjoyed getting dressed up to go out for a night of music and dancing. Doris also loved to work on jigsaw puzzles while listening to the stereo. Whenever her granddaughter joined the puzzle marathon it would turn in to a “secret” pizza night. We have many fond memories of time spent together.
Doris’s favourite job was in the drafting department at A.V. Roe where she did ink drawings on linen for the Avro Arrow project. There was no room for error and the work suited her meticulous nature. She never forgot the day the project was shut down and they were all let go.
Doris was a devoted mother and will be missed greatly by her children Valerie Reid, Debra Gilas, Sharon Mottershaw, and Darrin Mottershaw. She leaves behind her grandchildren Ian, Trista, Jenna, Kyle, Charlene, Justin, Joel, Alannah, Jake and 9 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her cherished older sister Helen Anscomb and her younger sisters Agnes, Ina (who predeceased her), Ruth and Darlene. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Headwaters Health Care Foundation or the War Amputations of Canada.
You can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she’s gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
