Sonzogni, Barbara (nee Schiel) After facing recent health challenges with grace, dignity, and courage; Barbara, passed away at home on Sunday June 4, 2023. Barbara is remembered by daughters Andrea Poorter (Rolph deceased), Claudia Baun (Brian), Carolina Lorenz (Rob), and their children and grandchildren, and extended family in Europe, friends, neighbours and various communities. Together with her husband Herbert (predeceased) they built a life together in Canada based on strong work ethic, compromise, resilience and love. In this time they built a strong family foundation which has inspired the upcoming generations. Herbert and Barbara met in Switzerland, immigrated to Canada, worked and saved, built a cottage, owned a restaurant, and operated an orchard together. Their greatest pride was in raising their family. They travelled the world, laughed and shared many family adventures. An avid hiker and gardener, Barbara loved being outside and on the Bruce Trail. Together with friends she travelled to many destinations always looking for another trail, adventure and fun. Her love of nature, flowers, trees and being active inspired many. Barbara wholeheartedly committed to her friendships and relationships by being a caring neighbour, an aware community volunteer and a reliable, inspirational and interesting friend. Her connections were diverse and many! A testament to the strength of her relationships, was the strong and steady stream of people that gave her so much support and joy in her last months. Always caring, grateful and gracious, she said she had a good life and enjoyed every day. A wonderful family and legacy has been fostered and produced by Barbara’s curiosity, energy and her eagerness to engage. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bruce Trail Conservancy or to the ALS Society of Ontario would be appreciated by the family. A Celebration of Life will be held at Dods and McNair Funeral Home in Orangeville on Thursday June 15, 2023. We will be receiving friends and family from 4-7pm, with words of remembrance at 5:30pm. A tree will be planted in memory of Barbara in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. 21st Annual Dedication Service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
