Obituary for Rudy Veenstra

Print
Rudolph (Rudy) Veenstra passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the age of 83. He leaves his loving wife Louise, his son Tom (Catherine), daughter Heather (Paul) and his grandchildren Luke, Juliana, Gus and Adelaide. Also missing him are son Michael (Trish), daughter Susan (Luc), Samuel, Kate, and Matthew. Rudy’s family was the most important thing to him and he felt great pride for each of them.
Rudy packed several lives worth of living into his 83 years. His early childhood, surviving the occupation of the Netherlands, taught him a resilience and resourcefulness that served him throughout his life, especially after moving to Canada as a teen. He worked as a farmer, truck driver, airplane mechanic and factory manager, but his greatest passion was custom woodworking. He loved golfing, fishing, model train and boat building, and beating everyone at cards. He also greatly valued his more than 20 years of volunteer work with Peel Cheshire Homes.
Visitation will be held at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, he requested donations be made to Peel Cheshire Homes Brampton (156 Murray Street, Brampton, Ontario, L6X 3L7) and Knox United Church in Caledon (2976 Charleston Sideroad, Caledon Village, Ontario, L7K 0V8).
A tree will be planted in memory of Rudy in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. A dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
