Obituary for Dave Craughwell
David (Dave) James Craughwell
Peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Bethell Hospice at the age of 52, after a short but fierce battle with stomach cancer. He will be deeply missed by his wife and best friend, Anita Schenk and his beautiful daughters, Meghan and Kaitlyn Craughwell.
Heavy hearts are those of his parents Mary and William Craughwell; his siblings - John (Tracey) Craughwell, Bill Craughwell and Pauline (Joe) Rose; and his in-laws – Frank and Sylvia Schenk (both deceased), Mike Schenk. Loved uncle of Ryan, Jacob, Samantha (deceased), Angelo and Michael.
Dave will be sorely missed by many friends and relatives – local and afar. We are so grateful to those who provided tremendous care and support these last five months. Dave was such a kind soul with many facets including a genuine interest in helping others, meticulous work ethics, and surprising people with snippets of dry, witty humour. He loved living in the country and being surrounded by nature at home and on travels.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre, 21 First St., Orangeville, with welcome starting at 1:30 p.m., service and memory-sharing at 2:30 p.m., and reception to follow. If you have a favourite memory of Dave, please bring a written copy to leave with us, so a memory keepsake can be created for the girls.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to either Friendship Gardens at Headwaters Health Care Foundation or Bethell Hospice Foundation (Parade of Perseverance team, Bethell Hike for Hospice on May 6th) would be appreciated by the family.
A tree will be planted in memory of David in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. A dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
