William (Bill) James Ritch
February 6, 1923 – January 1, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Ritch. After a brief illness, he passed in his sleep on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Dufferin Oaks Extended Care Home. He will now sleep eternally with his late wife, Jean Catherine (nee Corbett) who passed away in September, 2015
Bill served aboard the Corvette HMCS Collingwood during WWII as an Able Seaman. After the end of the war, Bill spent the next 25 years as a photographer for The Royal Canadian Air Force until his retirement. His second career was with the Etobicoke Board of Education as an Audio Visual Technician at Etobicoke Collegiate until his retirement.
Bill was the proud father of Murray (Lorabeth), Barry (Nina) and Wendy Sheedy (Mark). Cherished Poppa to Stuart, Collin (Kara), Megan, Kaitlyn, Courtney and Cameron.He is also fondly remembered by his many extended family members and friends.
Our Family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Dufferin Oaks Extended Care Home for their tremendous care and assistance to Bill over the past two years. He often expressed his deep gratitude for the thoughtfulness of everyone at the Residence.
Dad’s infectious laugh and humour will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace.
A Memorial Service celebrating his Joy of Life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Westminster United Church in Orangeville, 247 Broadway. (Reception to follow). Visitation will be held from from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust, PO Box 99000, Stn Forces, Halifax, NS B3K 5X5. or the Westminster United Church Orangeville (Music Fund).
A tree will be planted in memory of Bill in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville. A dedication service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
