Condolence: Judy, Crae and Family: I have fond memories of coming to Room 178 at Credit Valley Hospital to visit Becky and meet her family – you are indeed one of the most loving and caring families I have encountered during my twenty years as a Hospital Chaplain. As you reflect and remember Becky, I trust the words below written by Father Henri Nouwen will give you comfort knowing that your loved one is safe in God’s care. “A SMILE BREAKING THROUGH TEARS” Dying is a gradual diminishing and final vanishing over the horizon of life. When we watch a sailboat leaving port and moving toward the horizon, it becomes smaller and smaller until we can no longer see it. But we must trust that someone is standing on a faraway shore seeing that same sailboat become larger and larger until it reaches its new harbor. Death is a painful loss. When we return to our homes after the death of a loved one, our hearts are filled with grief. But when we think about "The One" standing at the other shore eagerly waiting to welcome our beloved friend into a new home, a smile can break through our tears. As you remember Becky, may the Spirit of the Living God comfort, guide and uphold you in the days and years ahead.
